I had a lot of fun with this week's assignment, I think photographing people is one of the most interesting forms of photography. I asked for all of my subjects' permission before taking their picture, including the two of these which came from my my photostory pictures. Other than overcoming any nervousness about asking these people for their cooperation (the homework excuse makes it much easier), my biggest challenge was capturing them in the way that I saw them without the camera. Reproducing these people candidly was something that took a good deal of effort, but I'm rather pleased with the results:

These are amazing...I don't know how you do it, but every single one of these is so intense. I don't know whether you do this intentionally (DO you do it intentionally?) but somehow all of these portraits draw the viewer's attention to the subject's eyes. It's stunning. I'm not sure that it can be fully explained, but there is definitely a common style evident in all of these photos. You're great at portraits. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the little kid eating ice cream. The blurred background really helps them to stand out, and I love the little spot of ice cream on their nose. Did you plan that or was it a candid?
ReplyDeleteThat shot is actually my brother and it was somewhat planned. He was outside eating ice cream and I told him to face me and take a lick!
DeleteAbsolutely… Amazing! You really have nailed this assignment. I commend you on your ability to take pictures of people you don't know and present them to us as if you've known them all your life. Being able to do this is a skill that is very rare, because we are taught that strangers are scary people. This, generally, is not the case.… As you have shown here… Keep up this most awesome work, for you are able to tell stories amazingly well with your camera.
