Week 8: Color Adjustment

This first image is actually one that I took a little bit before the class started, for the Maple Festival back in April. I know we are supposed to use new photos, but this photo has so many colors and adjustment opportunities I couldn't help myself from using it for this week's assignment. For the adjustments, I used some basic adjustments like the color balance and levels, but I mainly used the brightness and contrast. The biggest adjustment was selection the area I didn't want in color, and changing it to black and white. I think this the coolest adjustment I made and gives the image a very neat effect.

This next image is one that I took a few weeks ago at my brother's end-of-season jamboree. I played around with a few more color adjustment features for this second image. I used the ones I was less comfortable with like the posterize, desaturate, and threshold, all with only minor changes, nothing too crazy. The adjusted version has an interesting tone to it and may be a little too bright, but it was good to get experience with more color adjustment features.

  1. These were both edited in a way that majorly enhanced the best aspects of the shots. Great work! I completely adore the first picture, it's so quirky and fun! The colors and composition are both perfection.

  3. I am impressed! I really like how you highlighted the first photo. I don't think that your second photo is too bright. The complimentary colors really work in this photo.

  5. Nice work on these. The first one is an excellent example of how Photoshop can be used in a fun, fresh way. The second one really has been brightened a lot with this adjustment. You want to be careful about going to bright for you may end up losing some detail. And the colors will be a little bit unreal/unexpected depending on the story you're trying to tell.

The first photo has great detail, though a little on the gray side because of the dust. If anything I would probably only adjust the brightness and contrast a little bit. The altered version, I feel, would be better for an artistic audience. Because it is so bright and the colors intense, it reminds me of a painting... Push it further…

  6. I love your first photo! It actually made me think of the movie Elf. :) I like how you mixed black and white with color - it certainly gives it a unique feel.
